The Variable Sunbird (Cinnyris venustus), a member of the family Nectariniidae, measures about 7.7 inches in length and about 0.26 ounces in weight. Its plumage is multicolored with metallic and iridescent purple, black, green, blue, brown, yellow, and white. Preferred foods include the nectar of flowers, insects, and spiders. Preferred habitats include savannahs, woodlands, farmlands, parks.

This colorful Variable Sunbird perched in a tree while foraging was photographed at the Arusha National Park, in Arusha, in Tanzania, on 1-9-2016. I used a Nikon D810 camera body and a Nikkor 500mm f/4.0E FL ED VR2 telephoto lens to capture this image. Settings: 1/1250 sec, f/6.3, ISO 320.
